Program Introduction
The first-level discipline of Material Science and Engineering, composed of multiple second-level disciplines within School of Material Science and Engineering, is in a combination of materials, chemistry and chemical engineering. First established in 2003, it has developed into the first-level discipline in Shanghai. Granting the doctoral degree in Material Science and Engineering discipline, and the post-doctoral research center has been set up. The second-level discipline of Materials Science has been developed as 211 Project, the key discipline of State and Shanghai. The School includes Experiment Teaching Center, the National Demonstration Center, complementary research centers and instrumentation, Key Laboratories, and research centers. The School currently has an excellent faculty composed of the National "973" chief scientist, the Ministry of Education Cheung Kong Scholar Professor, the winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund and the talents of Shanghai Thousand People Program. Among the 170 staff, there are over 40 doctoral and 110 master advisors. They have made great strides in the designing, preparation and application of materials. For the last five years, most graduate students participated in the research of national "973", "863" science and technology support programs, the National Natural Science Fund and more than 200 provincial key projects. The School has several national and provincial awards.
