2016-01-21

In order to accomplish the goal of the "13th Five-Year Plan" of the university, improve the educational work of foreign students in ECUST and role of foreign student education in the internationalization of ECUST. CIE has held education seminars for foreign undergraduate students and graduates. Relevant responsible persons and professors from colleges such as chemical engineering, chemistry, bioengineering, materials and environment, information technology, social studies, science, law, business and so on, as well as the head of the Academic Affairs Office and of the Graduate School attended the meeting. They actively put forward advice and suggestions with reference to international student education in their own colleges.

At the meeting, issues like student enrollment, cultivation and management were heatedly discussed. Vice-dean of CIE Bao Hua first introduced the status of the current international student education and the requirements and objectives of the ECUST "13th Five-Year Plan"; she called on all to realize that the education requires forces from all sides, and cooperation between colleges and functional departments in order to promote the orderly development of this work. The vice-dean of the School of Chemical Engineering, He Chongheng, said that before the introduction of more perfect training and management policies related to foreign students, it’s a question worth considering as to how to move forward under existing conditions, "we should strengthen communication and contact, as well as interaction between teachers and students." added he. The dean of the School of Science, Lu Xiwen believed that the goal of cultivating students in the "13th Five-Year Plan" under the existing conditions is very stressful and effective measures should be taken to stimulate the enthusiasm of colleges and professors, and to pay attention to the alumni contact for students after graduation. The vice-dean from the Schoolf of Resources and Environmental Engineering,XiuGuangli particularly mentioned that two doctoral students in their college have successfully completed doctoral studies, contributing to the fact that the international indicators for this discipline made a very satisfactory score in the subject assessment, which is very inspiring. The vice-dean from the School of Business suggested that our school could learn from other universities’ successful experience to develop training program oriented to international students.

In addition, recommendations have been made to increase the degree of publicity, to further lift restrictions to student enrollment, to subsidize and attract self-financed students in various ways, to develop relevant incentive policies, and to establish standards as to the workload of students' education and teaching. It was agreed that the future seminar on student education could be normalized, and all should work together to promote better and faster development of foreign student education through enhanced contact and communication.
