On the afternoon of Nov.19, the 2017 Shanghai final of Chinese poetry recitation competition among international students drew to a successful close at the Children’s Palace, Yangpu District. Our Mongolian students Uyanga and Ning Jing won the third prize in group competition for their remarkable ability in poetry comprehension and Chinese reading.

The competition has engaged about 200 overseas students from 19 universities in Shanghai since started in July, involving a great deal of support from over ten thousand teachers, Chinese as well as international students. Four international students at ECUST signed up for the contest, two for individual and two for group competition. Hence Chinese teachers selected some literary works and conducted corresponding training in accordance with the competition requirements and varying language proficiency of students. With the strong support provided by our faculty, the collective program Spring came to the fore and advanced to the final with the third place in the group.

The final kicked off with a wonderful Dragon and Sichuan Opera face-up featuring 18 group and individual recitals performed by students from 34 countries. Our participants accomplished a wonderful interpretation of Chinese classic poetry by use of accurate Mandarin, novel forms and appropriate body language throughout the finals, exhibiting the outstanding Chinese proficiency and mental outlook of our students at ECUST.
