On June 6, the first session of Chinese Poetry Conference for International Students in Shanghai was held in Shanghai University, attracting overseas contestants from 18 universities. On behalf of CIE, ECUST, three international students, DONGHYEON KO of South Korea, SOMPATTANA VONGKHAMCHANH of Laos and ERI SUZUKI of Japan, participated in this competition.
They chanted Pure Peace Tune, a classical masterpiece of Li Bai, who is regarded as the greatest romantic poet of the Tang dynasty(618-907). Integrating the facial makeup and the vocal music of Drunkened Concubine, a renowned Peking Opera, into their performance, the chanting shocked the audience and won themselves the third prize and the Excellent Organization Prize.
Inheriting the aura of tunes from China and foreign countries, traditional Chinese poetry can be further interpreted with dancing. The aroma of classical Chinese culture can be better conveyed to international students, enhancing their passion to explore the beauty of traditional Chinese culture.
