In the afternoon of June 3, in theenvironmental volunteer activities themed"Cultivate a good habit, avoid garbage littering" hosted by Lingyun Street, there have been several foreign figures appearing on the scene, who are teachers and students from College of International Education at the East China University of Science and Technology.
In the rain, students at the "Garbage Collection" assisted the community residents in collecting the abandoned newspapers, and empty plastic bottles. Although there were some obstacles in communication, the students’ sincere smile and attitude nonetheless won the praise of the Shanghai aunts. Shanghai TV reporters at the scene also interviewed these five special volunteers.
The interactive experience activities like learning to make fruit enzymes, eating soil-cultivated ice cream, growing meat plants, and hand-made environmental pendant also bright students closer to the charming Chinese culture.
Encouraging foreign students to step out of the classroom and enter into the community to experience life in Shanghai is a meaningful trial led by CIE, which intends to expand the range of social experiences available for international students. In practice and interaction, students are furnished with an opportunity to better perceive and apply Chinese into communication as well as better allow community residents to give international students a better understanding of their life.
