Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A) ECUST 2024

The Chinese government has established a range of scholarship programs to support international students, teachers, and scholars in studying and conducting research at Chinese universities. These programs aim to promote mutual understanding, cooperation, and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries. The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as“CSC”), entrusted by China’s Ministry of Education, is responsible for the admission, enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship recipients.

The CSC-Type A scholarship include various programs such as the Bilateral program, ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship, GREAT-WALL program, EU program, AUN program, PIF program, and more. These programs cater to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as general and senior scholars. 3. Language Requirements

I.) The CSC-Type A undergraduate program is taught in Chinese. Before starting their academic studies, scholars are required to complete a one-year preparatory course at a designated college and pass the assessment. However, those who meet the following requirements in language proficiency and basic knowledge can apply for exemption from the preparatory course:

a. Completion of secondary education with Chinese as the language of instruction, supported by a certificate from the graduating school proving that compulsory high school courses were taught in Chinese.

b. Chinese proficiency at HSK level 5 or above, with a valid HSK score report (valid for two years).

II.) Graduate and scholar programs are generally taught in Chinese, although some majors can be taught in English. If scholars choose a Chinese-taught program but do not meet the Chinese proficiency requirements, they must undergo 1 to 2 years of Chinese language study before starting their academic studies. Failure to meet these requirements means they cannot continue receiving the Chinese government scholarship and study in China. However, scholars who choose an English-taught program or meet the Chinese proficiency requirements for admission are exempt from the Chinese language study requirement.
